The taskbar had been found out to have many visual changes, wherein the Quick Launch toolbar had been substituted with fixed applications in the taskbar. Buttons that are fixed applications are incorporated on the task buttons. The Jump Lists feature are being enabled by these buttons to permit easy access with the common tasks. The enhanced taskbar also grants the rearrangement of the taskbar buttons. Located on the far right of the clock is the Show desktop icon, which is a part of the new feature, called the Aero Peak. Hanging over in this button displays all visible windows for a quick glance at the desktop. This button is somewhat wider such as that of the touch screens and tablet PCs to fit being pressed by a finger. A click on this button will minimize all of the windows and second time clicking will restore them. Moreover, another feature named Aero Snap is capable of the automatic maximize of window when dragged to either left, right or top edges of the screen. This feature allows the user to snap files or documents to compare them in either of the side of the screen. Moving the windows that are maximized will let the system restore to the previous state automatically. Keyboard shortcuts are also available with these functionalities. In Windows Vista, the taskbar and the window borders does not turn opaque when the window is maximized, but they remain transparent.

For web developers, the new Windows 7 has a new net networking API for building SOAP-based web services in its native code, fresh features to shorten the installation time of the application, reduced the UAC prompts and simplify the development of the installation packages. Moreover, Microsoft had announced that Windows 7 will support the color depths of 30 and 48-bit respectively. The video modes that are supported are 16-bit, 24-bit, 30-bit and 48-bit scRGB. Furthermore, Microsoft is implementing an improved support for the Solid State Devices and will eventually be able to distinguish its own Solid State Drive.
